Business Development is a process that involves identifying opportunities for growth and taking action to achieve that growth. It’s a topic hard to acquire as individual involved in deep technological details. Here are some hits you could follow:
- Build relationships. Leave any company you’ve worked with in a good faith. This may create partnerships in the future – by connecting potential clients, partners, and stakeholders. Networking, attending industry events, and establishing a strong online presence are ways to build relationships that can lead to new opportunities. You will need to be extrovert and talk to people – what they do and what you do.
- Focus on value creation. I’ve personally detected problems that the client had – with simple web site or application. Focus on understanding their needs and identifying ways to meet those needs through your products or services.
- Be proactive: Don’t wait for opportunities to come to you. This is the most hard thing for introvert. Be proactive in seeking out new opportunities for growth. Identify new markets, develop new products, and seek out partnerships and collaborations. The partnership and collaborating part is the hardest as it requires soft skills.
- Prioritize strategic thinking: Develop a clear vision and strategy for growth, and prioritize activities that align with that strategy. Not having a vision is a plan for failure – and I’m pointing this from personal experience.
- Embrace innovation: Business development often involves exploring new and innovative approaches to growth. That’s beyond – experimenting with new technologies. Be open to new ideas and ways of doing things, and be willing to waste time and some little money on new things. I’ve written before about ways of making money from software
- Measure success: To be successful in, it’s important to measure your progress and success. Set clear goals and metrics for growth, and track your progress over time. It is good idea that some part of this measurement to be financial.
- Stay adaptable: Business development is an ongoing process, and success often requires adaptability and flexibility. Be willing to pivot your strategy as needed to take advantage of new opportunities or address challenges. Almost no startup is successful the first time it tries to get to market.
